September 21, 2017 — Kenneth Stanley, professor, Department of Computer Science, won the following award from the International Society for Artificial Life (ISAL): 2017 ISAL Award for Outstanding Paper of the Decade 2002 – 2012

August 19, 2017 — Essam Radwan and Hatem Abou-Senna, P.E.. Research Assistant Professor CATSS, Transportation & Air Quality Program Director Room, won the 2017 ITE Pedestrian and Bicycle Standing Committee Best Project Award. Dr. Abou-Senna received the award at the joint ITE/CITE Annual Meeting and Exhibit held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from July 30th to Aug 2nd, 2017 and was recognized during the Complete Streets Council meeting as well as the ITE and CITE Awards Lunch with ITE Leadership.

August 17, 2017 — Mohamed Abdel-Aty, professor, Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering, was honored as UCF Trustee Chair. He is a Pegasus Professor of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering, Deputy Director of the Center for Advanced Transportation Systems Simulation, and Chair of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering.

August 4, 2017 — Sudipta Seal, professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has been named chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at the University of Central Florida.

August 03, 2017 — Parveen Wahid, professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was selected by the IEEE Women in Engineering Committee as the winner of the 2017 WIE Inspiring Member Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize a professional member of IEEE Women in Engineering who has made an outstanding contribution to WIE, their community, and the engineering community, through dedication and involvement in projects or activities directed toward fulfilling one or more of the WIE goals and objectives.

June 19, 2017 — Mubarak Shah, professor, Department of Computer Science, a co-author on “Visual attention detection in video sequences using spatiotemporal cues” was honored as a Classic paper from 2006 by Google Scholar. This paper has 677 citations and is the 4th most cited paper in the Multimedia area of the Google Classic papers.

June 09, 2017 — Pamela Wisniewski, assistant professor, Department of Computer Science, was honored “Sound and Video Contractor” magazine for her UX Lab’s successful engagement with Bogen Inc.

May 19, 2017 — Sean Szumlanski, lecturer, Department of Computer Science, was named as a Distinguished Distinguished Faculty Member at UCF by students living in the Knights’ Circle community. Dr. Szumlanski’s name will be placed on a perpetual plaque in the Knights’ Circle Community lobby.

May 19, 2017 — Ali Orooji, professor, Department of Computer Science was named as a Distinguished Faculty Member at UCF by students living in the Tower III Community. Dr. Orooji’s name will be placed on a perpetual plaque in the Tower III Community lobby.

April 27, 2017 — Woo Hyoung Lee, assistant professor, Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering received the College of Engineering & Computer Science Dean’s Advisory Board  Faculty Fellow Award in recognition of the remarkable academic work and commitment to UCF and its students.

April 26, 2017 — Waldemar Karwowski, Pegasus Professor and Chair, Department of Industrial Engineering & Management Systems, received the William Floyd Award from U.K.-based Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors. This field of engineering involves the human-centered design of systems, processes and equipment developed to fit people’s natural capabilities and limitations.

March 23, 2017 — Laurene Tetard, associate professor, Department of Industrial Engineering & Management Systems, has been selected to receive the College of Engineering & Computer Science Office of Diversity & Inclusion’s Appreciation Award. This award is given annually to recognize those who have committed their time or collaborated with our office to broaden the participation of underrepresented students in engineering.

Feb. 24, 2017 — Ranganathan Kumar, professor, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, joined the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports; an online, open access journal from the publishers of Nature. His job as a board member will be to review papers in his areas of expertise, including fluid mechanics and dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.

Jan. 11, 2017 — Naveen Eluru, professor, Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering, has been awarded the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Statistical Methods (ABJ80) Committee 2016 Best Paper Award for his paper titled “Ordered Fractional Split Approach for Aggregate Injury Severity Modeling.”
