Biography
Luis G. Arboleda is an associate professor at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering. His expertise is in full-scale field performance and instrumentation of geostructures including soil-structure interaction and numerical simulations of underground constructions using advanced numerical simulations and field/laboratory testing of soils. Arboleda has developed significant research contributions in the field of soil-structure interaction, analysis and design of supported excavations, geotechnical earthquake engineering and soil liquefaction, geomechanical failures of sinkholes, laboratory testing of soils, and constitutive modeling of soils and rocks.
Before joining UCF, he was an assistant professor at California State University, Long Beach campus. He earned his Ph.D. in 2014 from Northwestern University in geotechnical engineering and completed his masters in structural engineering in 2006 at Purdue University. He also worked for four years in a structural engineering consulting firm, Janssen and Spaans Engineering Inc., where he worked on the design, construction engineering, inspection, and rehabilitation of long-span bridges and other infrastructure systems in the U.S. His bachelor’s degree is from the National University of Colombia, earned in 2004.
