Where Can I Go?

Our academic partners are carefully chosen for their education and cultural enrichment opportunities that are challenging and rewarding for our students. The safety of our students is paramount and we do all we can to ensure that our students are studying in a safe and supportive environment. Our list of international partners is expanding and currently includes:

• Jonkoping University, Jonkoping, Sweden. - Jonkoping University is located in Jonkoping, a beautiful mid-sized city in southern Sweden, at the foot of Lake Vatern, the second largest lake in Sweden. Jonkoping is about five hours by train from Stockholm. Many of our students have attended Jonkoping U. since 2000. Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science majors are supported. Courses are in Swedish but with a significant complement of courses in English.
• Malardalen University, Vasteras, Sweden. - Malardalen is located in Vasteras and Eskiltuna. Both are pleasant industrial cities near Lake Malaren and approximately one hour by train from Stockholm. Classes are in Swedish and in English. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science majors are supported. Courses are in Swedish but with a significant complement of courses in English.
• Pierre and Marie Curie University (Paris VI), Paris, France. - UPMC is one of the most prestigious technical and scientific universities in Europe. It has been ranked as the top university in France and 6th in Europe. Current enrollment is approximately 31,000 students. Several noted research laboratories are part of UPMC. Located in the famed Latin Quarter on the River Seine near cultural activities in the heart of Paris. All majors are supported. Courses are in French.
• Technical University of Ilmenau, Ilmenau, Germany. - TUI has been recently established as a technical university, a prestigious title in German academic circles. However, its roots as a technical seat of learning go back to the early 20th century. Located in the former German Democratic Republic, it has quickly enhanced its facilities to meet the demands of the 21st century. It is best known for electrical engineering and computer science and engineering, but also has faculties in other engineering disciplines. It is located in Ilmenau, a small industrial town nestled among hill and forests in the province of Thuringia, commonly called the green heart of Germany because of its forested hills and valleys. It is a small university, with approximately 7,200 students. Ilmenau can be reached from Frankfurt by train in approximately three hours. All majors are supported. Courses are in German, with a small selection in English.
• FH Gelsenkirchen, Gelsenkirchen, Germany. - FHGE is a largely undergraduate public university in the German Ruhr area, the heavy manufacturing area of Germany. It is referred to as University of Applied Science - Gelsenkirchen. The university supports most of the engineering disciplines, but is particularly specialized in photo-voltaic technology and renewable energy conversion, such as wind power. FHGE has a close relationship with Siemens Energy and may be able to place interested students in internships at the Siemens steam turbine factory in nearby Mulheim. Gelsenkirchen can be reached by train from Cologne in about 1 hour. Courses are in German, but a few are in English and significant assistance is given to non-German speakers taking courses in German.
• FH Erfurt, Erfurt, Germany. - FHE is a largely undergraduate university, called University of Applied Sciences. It is located near a Siemens generator manufacturing plant, and can place interested students in internships with Siemens. FHE is located in Erfurt, a beautiful medieval city that escaped many of the ravages of World War II. Erfurt is approximately 2.5 hours from Frankfurt by train, and is quite near Ilmenau and the Technical University of Ilmenau. Computer Science, Civil, and Construction Engineering majors are supported. Courses are in German.
• Universidad de Cantabria, Santander, Spain. - UniCan is one of the newest members of our partner network. Located in the seaside resort of Santander in the north coast of Spain, it enjoys mild weather throughout the year. Santander can be reached by air from Madrid in less than one hour, or by train from Madrid in approximately four hours. All majors are supported. Courses are in Spanish, with a small selection of classes taught in English, mostly in Civil Engineering.
• Universidad de Jaen, Jaen, Spain. - Ujaen is a medium sized public university (17,000 students) located in Jaen, about a 30 minute drive from Granada, the historic city of the Moors. UJaen was originally a part of the much older Universidad de Granada, but became its own unit in 1993. All majors are supported. Courses are in Spanish.
• IQS, Barcelona, Spain. - IQS is part of Ramon Lull University in Barcelona. Specifically, IQS is the Institute for Chemical Sciences. Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain, and directly accessible by air from the US. The focus is on Industrial Engineering. All classes are in Spanish.
• University of the West of England, Bristol, UK. - UWE is a public university located in Bristol, England. Bristol is a little more than one hour by train from London’s Paddington station, and is near Wales and Cornwall. Bristol is a picturesque port city. Current enrollment is approximately 30,000 students. Only Computer Engineering is currently supported. Courses are in English.
• University of Surrey, Guildford, UK. - The University of Surrey is in Guildford, England, a historical river-side town. Surrey is consistently ranked as one of the safest places to live in the UK, and is only 35 minutes by train to central London. Current enrollment is approximately 15,000 students. All majors except for Industrial Engineering are supported. Courses are in English.
• Brno University of Technology, Brno, Czech Republic. - BUT is an established university in technology, founded in 1899, with over 24,000 students. It is located in Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Rep. It is approximately 3 hours by train from Prague, one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. UCF currently has a FIPSE/Atlantis grant that pays $5,000 per semester of study at this university to help defray travel and academic expenses. Several students have taken advantage of this opportunity. Electrical, Computer, Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering majors are supported. Courses are in Czech, but there are some selected courses in English, depending on the major.
• Universite Joseph Fourier, Grenoble, France. - UJF is named after the famous French mathematician by the same name. It has been recently ranked as the 4th best university in France in science and technology. It currently has 18,000 students. It is located in Grenoble, in the French Alps, and the site of a past Winter Olympic games. Grenoble is three hours from Paris by train. UJF is part of the FIPSE/Atlantis grant that supports academic stays at UJF with $5,000 to help defray the cost of travel and studying there. Courses are in French, but there are some selected courses in English, depending on the major.
• AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland. - AGH was established in 1919 and was formerly known as the University of Mining and Metallurgy. Now it is a multi-discipline university, but its strengths are in mechanical and materials. It is located in Krakow, southern Poland. It has approximately 35,000 students. AGH is part of the FIPSE/Atlantis grant that supports academic stays at AGH with $5,000 to help defray the cost of travel and studying there. Courses are in Polish, but there are some selected courses in English, depending on the major.
• Universidad de Costa Rica, San José, Costa Rica. - UCR is the flagship university in Costa Rica, a most beautiful country by any definition. It is a large university, with an enrollment of approximately 35,000 students. UCR has many disciplines and is located in the San Jose suburb of San Pedro. The climate in San Jose is mild year-round, although wet during the rainy season. San Jose is easily accessible from Orlando via direct flights. Supports all majors except Aerospace and Construction Engineering. Courses are in Spanish.
• Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica, Cartago, Costa Rica. - ITCR is a relatively new public technical university located in Cartago, the old capital of Costa Rica. ITCR is relatively small, with approximately 7,000 students, most of them in engineering and science. Cartago is located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica and approximately 45 minutes by bus from San Jose. All majors supported except Aerospace Engineering. Courses are in Spanish.
• Universidad Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. - With 47,000 students, UFRJ is one of the largest universities in Brazil. UFRJ is also one of the leading research universities in Brazil. It is a public institution that supports most majors in engineering and science. It is located in Rio de Janeiro, one of the world’s most beautiful cities. It is easily accessible from Orlando and Miami. All classes are in Portuguese. UFRJ is part of the FIPSE/CAPES grant that currently supports UCF students interested in spending one semester there with up to $5,000 to help defray the cost of travel and studying there. Courses are in Portuguese and suitable for advanced to fluent Spanish-speakers.
• Pontificia Universidad Catolica do Rio Grande do Rio Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil. - PUCRS is a large (26,000 students) private university located in the port city of Porto Alegre, the 10th largest city in Brazil. Porto Alegre is in the deep southern part of Brazil. PUCRS is also one of the most prestigious academic institutions in Brazil. It supports all majors, but aerospace engineering is particularly strong because of its relation with Embraer. All classes are in Portuguese. PUCRS is part of the FIPSE/CAPES grant that currently supports UCF students interested in spending one semester there with up to $5,000 to help defray the cost of travel and studying there. Courses are in Portuguese and suitable for advanced to fluent Spanish-speakers.
• Tongji University, Shanghai, China. - TU was originally founded by the German government in 1907, and is one of the oldest universities in China. It is now also one of the most prestigious institutions in China. It has approximately 38,000 students. It is located in Shanghai, the second largest city after Beijing and also the most western of Chinese cities. Tongji supports all majors. Courses are in Chinese, but some courses in English are available for specific majors.
