Grant Funded Financial Support

Engineering Global Leaders

A Program to Promote Student Interchange between the USA and Brazil
Sponsored by US Department of Education - FIPSE and Brazil CAPES

This grant seeks to encourage UCF engineering, CS and IT students to pursue an International Engineering minor and do their study abroad experience that is part of that minor program in Brazil. The program supports such students with up to $5,000 to cover expenses directly related to such overseas study. The study abroad experience must be done at one of the following two universities in Brazil:

  • Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) - Rio de Janeiro. http://www.ufrj.br/. This 90 year old University in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro offers excellent programs in all engineering disciplines. UFRJ is one of the largest and most prestigious public universities in Brazil. It has significant research endeavors
  • Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Sul (PUCRS) - Porto Alegre. Established in 1931, it is also one of the oldest institutions in Brazil. Their specialties are in Computer Science and in Aeronautical engineering.

Language Requirements: Knowledge of Portuguese is required to participate in this program, as all classes are taught in Portuguese. Training in Portuguese is part of the preparation process for interested UCF students, both while at UCF in anticipation of the trip as well as upon arrival in Brazil.

Eligibility: Eligibility requirements are: 1) Third or fourth year engineering, computer science or IT undergraduate student at UCF. 2) Enrollment in International Engineering minor. 3) US Citizenship at the time of the beginning of the study abroad experience, 4) a minimum GPA of 2.5 at UCF. Awards are competitive.

Interested students should contact a faculty minor coordinator for an appointment.

Dependable Systems International Research and Educational Experience (DeSIRE2)

A Program to Promote Student Interchange between the USA and the European Union
Sponsored by US Department of Education – FIPSE Atlantis and the European Union

This grant seeks to encourage UCF engineering, CS and IT students to pursue an International Engineering minor and do their study abroad experience that is part of that minor program in the European Union (EU). The program supports such students with up to $5,000 to cover expenses directly related to such overseas study. The study abroad experience must be done at one of the following three universities:

  • AGH University of Science and Technology (AGH) – Krakow, Poland. http://www.agh.edu.pl. This 90 year old University in the beautiful city of Krakow offers excellent programs in all engineering disciplines. AGH is a mid-size university, with 9,000 students at its Krakow campus.
Language Requirements: Knowledge of Polish is highly encouraged, but not required. Some classes are taught in English, however, depending on the student’s situation, sufficient English courses may not be available to fill a full time schedule. Training in Polish can be arranged while still at UCF as well as upon arrival in Krakow.
  • Brno University of Technology (VUT) - Brno, Czech Republic. http://www.vutbr.cz/en/. Founded in 1899, VUT is the first university in the region of Moravia. VUT has over 24,000 students in Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, after the capital, Prague.
Language Requirements: Knowledge of the Czech language is highly encouraged, but not required. Some graduate courses are taught in English, but only in the faculty of Controls (equivalent to electrical engineering). Training in Czech can be arranged while at UCF, but mostly after arrival in Brno.
  • Université Joseph Fourier (UJF) – Grenoble, France. http://www.ujf-grenoble.fr. With over 17,000 students, UJF is one of the top universities in France. Located in the alpine city of Grenoble, UJF enjoys an unparalleled location for winter sports enthusiasts and lovers of the outdoor. All engineering disciplines and computer science are covered at UJF.
Language Requirements: Knowledge of French is highly encouraged, but not required. Some graduate courses are taught in English, but only in the faculty of Controls (equivalent to electrical engineering). Training in French is available at UCF prior to departure as well as upon arrival in Grenoble.

Eligibility: Eligibility requirements are: 1) Third or fourth year engineering, computer science or IT undergraduate student at UCF. Alternatively, the student may be a UCF graduate student. 2) Enrollment in International Engineering minor (applies only to undergraduate student). 3) US Citizenship at the time of the beginning of the study abroad experience, 4) a minimum GPA of 2.5 at UCF if undergraduate; 3.0 if graduate, plus advisor consent. Awards are competitive.

Interested students should contact a faculty minor coordinator for an appointment.

Engineering a New Global Environment (ENGE)

A Program to Promote Student Interchange between the USA and the European Union
Sponsored by US Department of Education – FIPSE Atlantis and the European Union

This grant seeks to encourage UCF engineering, CS and IT students to pursue an International Engineering minor and do their study abroad experience that is part of that minor program in the European Union (EU). The program supports such students with up to $5,000 to cover expenses directly related to such overseas study. The study abroad experience must be done at one of the following three universities:

  • Jonkoping University (HJ) - Jonkoping, Sweden. http://www.hj.se. HJ is one of only three PhD granting institutions in Sweden. Located at the foot of Lake Vatern, Sweden’s second largest lake, HJ provides an excellent environment for learning and doing research. Disciplines available are electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental and industrial engineering, as well as computer science.
Language Requirements: None. Many courses are taught in English, and English is widely spoken throughout the country. Nevertheless, knowledge of some Swedish is encouraged.
  • Universidad de Cantabria (UC) – Santander, Spain. http://www.unican.es. This new, modern Spanish University is located in Santander, in the northern coast of Spain. Yet, its heritage harks back to 1829, when its predecessor, a school for business and maritime navigation, was founded in the same city of Santander. Disciplines available are electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental and industrial engineering, as well as computer science.
Language requirements: Knowledge of Spanish sufficient to take classes in Spanish is required. Some coursework in English is available, but it is unlikely to be sufficient to make for a full time load. Training is Spanish is available at UCF prior to departure as well as in country upon arrival.
  • Universidad de Jaen (UJA) – Jaen, Spain. http://www.ujaen.es. Originally part of the Universidad de Granada, UJA became its own institution in 1993. It is situated near Granada and several other UN World Heritage sites. Disciplines available are electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental and industrial engineering, as well as computer science.
