Windows 10 End of Life

Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 will end on October 14th, 2025. CECS IT is working in conjunction with UCF IT to prepare for the transition to Windows 11. Due to the large number of systems that will be affected by this migration, we will be implementing it over time to allow for a quick response to issues that arise. We hope this preliminary notice will allow groups to properly prepare any budgetary needs for equipment upgrade or replacement before the October 14, 2025 deadline.

With the transition to Windows 11, there are a few hardware and software requirements needed to support this modern operating system. Most notable are:

Over half of the computers in CECS meet these requirements and do not require any service or changes for this upgrade to take place. The other computers may need reconfiguring, additional hardware, or replacement to complete the migration before the deadline is reached.

Migration Timeline

The update will begin to show up on eligible computers in the following departments starting on the date show below. Computers that are not compatible with the update will show a notice in the Windows Update section of the Settings app. There will be a grace period after the update is downloaded before it will automatically reboot the computer and be applied. Please plan the required reboot accordingly during this grace period as it can take several hours for the system to complete the upgrade once initiated.
