The University of Central Florida has been named one of the best schools in the U.S. for transportation science and technology for the fifth consecutive year. The university, which offers a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a transportation systems engineering track and Master of Science in Travel Technology and Analytics in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, has been consistently ranked among the top 10 universities in the U.S. since ShanghaiRanking established the transportation science and technology category in 2020.

Nationally, the program ranks at No. 6 while globally, UCF ranks No. 47 for transportation science and technology out of 200 higher education institutions. Professor Mohamed Abdel-Aty, the previous chair of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering, attributes this recognition to the strength and perseverance of the transportation faculty.

“The transportation faculty recognized early on the potential of transportation technology to solve many challenges facing our cities,” Abdel-Aty says. “We had a clear and excellent vision of what we needed to do for the future. Our ability to continuously achieve this high ranking with fewer resources than other universities speaks to the quality of our education and research and the dedication of our faculty.”

Nationally, UCF also garnered high ranks in several other areas of engineering, including additional fields of civil and environmental engineering. The university ranked No. 24 in the U.S. for water resources, beating institutions such as Arizona State University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Duke University and the California Institute of Technology. UCF also ranked among the top 100 universities in the U.S. for environmental science and engineering.

These are the additional U.S. rankings for engineering and computer science:

  • 31 – Electrical and electronics engineering
  • 48 – Energy science and engineering
  • 49 – Mechanical engineering
  • Top 100 – Computer science and engineering
  • Top 100 – Materials science and engineering
