Fang Named Fellow of International Association of Advanced Materials

The International Association of Advanced Materials has named Professor Jiyu Fang a Fellow of the organization in recognition for his outstanding contributions to the area of biological and biocompatible materials.

This distinction is one of the highest honors for scientists, engineers and researchers in the advanced materials community. To select new Fellows, IAAM uses scientific databases to identify those who have made significant contributions to the field. The identified professionals must then file a nomination, which is reviewed by a selection committee that chooses the next group of fellows.

“I am so thankful to my colleagues in materials field for the recognition of my achievements in the design and synthesis of stimuli-responsive soft nanomaterials for biomedical applications,” Fang says.

As a recipient of this honor, Fang will deliver the IAAM Fellow Lecture during the Advanced Materials Congress or the Advanced Materials Lecture Series.

Fang joined UCF in 2003 and currently serves as a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He is also the director of the Advanced Materials Processing and Analysis Center. His research focuses on biological systems and self-assembled nanostructural materials. In recent years, he has developed liquid-crystal-based optical sensors that can detect the biomarkers of diseases as well as the bacteria responsible for tuberculosis.
