Biography
F. Necati Catbas is the Lockheed Martin St. Laurent Professor at the UCF Department of Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering, and the founding director of the Civil Infrastructure Technologies for Resilience and Safety (CITRS) Lab. Catbas’ research interests span theoretical, experimental and applied aspects of structural identification, structural health monitoring, non-destructive evaluation, condition assessment of structural systems and earthquake engineering with applications on structures such as bridges, buildings, aerospace structures and components, and stadium structures.
He has been consistently ranked in the top 2% of his field in civil engineering worldwide, and published in articles by Stanford researchers (Ioannidis et al, 2020), and was cited as one of the top civil/structural engineering professors in the AD Scientific Index (2023).
He is on the editorial board of several journals including, associate editor for the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering, handling editor for the Journal of the Transportation Research Board, the Structure and Infrastructure Engineering Journal. He served on the executive board of the Society for Experimental Mechanics, served as the chair of the ASCE Structural Identification Technical Committee, among others.
Catbas has received several awards and honors for his research, teaching and service activities, such as the Aftab Mufti Medal from the International Society for Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure, and the Kikuchi-Karlaftis Award from the Transportation Research Board.
Catbas is a registered professional engineer in the State of Florida, and he is an elected Fellow of ASCE and SEI.
