Participate in the College of Engineering and Computer Science Internships for Credit program to build your skills and earn academic credit at the same time. What can you gain from an internship?

Approval and Enrollment Process

Following are the requirements and steps to complete to obtain approval and be enrolled in the internship course:

  1. Requirements:
    • Complete the prerequisites for your major. Click on your unit in the dropdown accordion below for full details.
    • Participating in a major-related internship during the semester enrolled in the internship course.
    • International Students: Please refer to the UCF Global site for details regarding the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization process.

  2. Approval Process:
    • Complete and submit the Experience Form in Handshake.
    • In Handshake, click on Career Center>Experiences>Submit and Experience. Include all the information of the internship in detail and select “Major Restricted Electives” for Purpose.
    • Add Department’s Internship Instructor’s e-mail under “Academic Success Coach” in the “Reviewer contact information” section of the Experience Form
    • Add Hiring Manager and/or Internship Supervisor contact information in the “Reviewer contact information” section of the Experience Form.
    • Attach the offer letter to the Experience Form.
  3. Deadline to submit the Experience Form:
    • Friday before the beginning of the semester.

      ** Please note, the Experience Form will be routed to the CECS Internship Course Instructor and to your Internship Supervisor/ Hiring Manager, therefore, allow for a minimum of 5 business days of processing time.

  4. Enrollment:
    • Once the Experience Form is fully approved by CECS Internship Instructor and Employer, Experiential Learning will enroll the student in the EGN 4941 or COP 4941 Internship Course by 1st Friday of the Semester.
Internship Course Requirements

Internship Course is graded on a Satisfactory (“S”)/ Unsatisfactory (“U”) basis. For a Satisfactory grade, student must:

  • Complete a minimum of 135 internship hours during the enrolled semester
  • Complete all course modules and assignments to your instructor’s satisfaction through Webcourses.
  • Obtain an acceptable evaluation from the employer

Program Details:
  • Students must meet all of the prerequisite requirements listed below
Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Students must have secured and accepted a major-related internship position the semester they intend to enroll in the internship course
  • Students must be declared as a CECE major to apply (no pending status)
  • Students must be in good academic standing and not on any academic probation
  • Students must have completed at least 24 credit hours in the major (defined as CECE course prefixes with course numbers 3000 and above).
  • Students must have successfully completed one of the following prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better:

    • Civil Engineering: CES 4100C or CEG 4011C or CWR 4202C or TTE 3810
    • Environmental Engineering: CEG 4011C or CWR 4202C or EES 4202C or ENV 4120 or EES 4111C
    • Construction Engineering: CES 4100C or CEG 4011C or CWR 4202C or CCE 4034

Program Details:
  • COP 4941: Internship counts as 3 credit hours
  • Student enrolled in the internship course will be charged UCF tuition and fees
  • Interns typically work 10 to 20 hours per week and are paid hourly
  • Projects are planned to last one semester (12 to 15 weeks)
  • Students will complete several short online assignments during the semester they are interning
  • Students are responsible for applying and interviewing for their own internship
Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Must be declared as a computer science major to apply
  • Must be in junior or senior standing with a cumulative UCF GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must have successfully completed the following prerequisite course:

    • COP 3503: Computer Science II
  • Availability to work off campus and possess reliable transportation

Program Details:
  • CGS 4941 IT Internship counts as one 3-credit-hour IT Restricted Elective course
  • Interns will be enrolled in CGS4941 IT Internship and charged UCF tuition and fees
  • Interns typically work 10-20 hours per week and are paid hourly
  • Projects are planned to last one semester (12-15 weeks)
  • Interns complete several short online assignments during the semester they are interning
  • Students are responsible for applying and interviewing for their own internship position
Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Must be declared as a Information Technology major to apply
  • Junior/Senior standing with a cumulative UCF GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have successfully completed all of the following prerequisite courses:

    • CGS 2545 Database Concepts
    • CIS 3003 Fundamentals of Information Technology
    • COP 3330 Object Oriented Programming
    • COP 3502c Computer Science 1
    • MAD 2104 or COT3100 Foundations of Discrete Math
  • Availability to work off campus and possess reliable transportation

Program Details:
  • ENG 4941: Internship counts as 3 credit hours
  • Student enrolled in the internship course will be charged UCF tuition and fees
  • Students are responsible for applying and interviewing for their own internship
  • Students may use their current job as an internship site if the position is related to computer engineering or electrical engineering

    • Students with a Lockheed Martin College Work Experience Program (CWEP) will not be eligible for this program
  • Academic credit cannot be awarded for work performed prior to the first day of the internship
  • Students will complete several short online assignments during the semester they are interning
Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Students must be declared as an EE or CpE major to apply (no pending status)
  • A cumulative UCF GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must have successfully completed the following prerequisite course:

    • EEL3004C and EEE3342C

Program Details:
  • EGN 4941 Internship counts as one 3-credit-hour IEMS Restricted Technical Elective course
  • Interns will be enrolled in EGN 4941 Internship and charged UCF tuition and fees
  • Interns typically work 10-20 hours per week and are paid (At least a total of 135 hours/semester)
  • Projects are planned to last one semester (12-15 weeks)
  • Interns complete several short online assignments during the semester they are interning
  • Students are responsible for applying and interviewing for their internship position
  • The Internship position must have a strong IE Component
Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Must be declared as an IE major to apply
  • Junior/Senior standing with a cumulative UCF GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Have successfully completed all of the following courses:

    1. EIN3351 (Engr Econ & Cost Engineering)
    2. EIN4360 (Work Design & Fac Planning) or ESI4523 (Systems Simulation)
    3. At least 3 of the following (You cannot repeat the one selected in ii):

      • CAI4823 (AI for IE’s – or ESI4628)
      • IN4243 (Human Engineering)
      • EIN4333 (Production and Distribution)
      • EIN4360 (Work Design & Fac Planning)
      • EIN4391 (Digital Manufacturing for IE’s)
      • EIN4517 (Systems Engineering)
      • ESI4221 (Empirical Methods)
      • ESI4234 (Quality Engineering)
      • ESI4312 (Deterministic Methos for OR)
      • ESI4313 (Stochastic Methods for OR)
      • ESI4523 (Systems Simulation)

  • Interns typically work 10 to 20 hours per week and are paid hourly

  • Students will complete several short online assignments during the semester they are interning
  • Students are responsible for applying and interviewing for their own internship
Prerequisite Requirements:
  • Must be declared an undergraduate materials science and engineering major to apply
  • Must be in junior or senior standing with a cumulative UCF GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must have successfully completed the following prerequisite courses:

    • EGN 3365
    • EMA 3102 or EMA 3012C or EMA 3124
  • Availability to work off campus and possess reliable transportation
