Submission Guidelines
When it’s time to submit your video for judging, you will receive an email prompting you to turn in your video link. When you submit your link, please send the embed form of the link (ex: https://www.youtube.com/embed/6JNt1ey-hMg). Do not shorten the URL (ex: youtu.be) as it will not allow the video to be embedded.
How to Upload to YouTube
Please follow the step-by-step instructions below to upload your project video to YouTube:
- Open your web browser and go to YouTube.
- Log in to your YouTube account (you will need a Google account to log in).
- Click on the video icon at the top right-hand side of the window, which can be found next to your user icon, messages, apps and notifications.
- Click “Upload Video.”
- Then, press “Select Files to Upload” to find the video file saved on your computer.
- Make sure your video is saved in a compatible file format: .MOV, .WMV, .WebM, .HEVC, .MPEG4, .MP4, .MPEGPS, .AVI, .FLV, .3GPP, .DNxHR, .ProRes, or .CineForm.
- Your video title should be the name of your project.
- Add a brief description of the video that includes your discipline: MAE, MSE, ECE, IEMS, CS or Interdisciplinary.
- Select “No” when asked if your video is made for children.
- Mark your video as unlisted before publishing.
- Click “Publish.”
- Copy the link to your video and share via the email you receive from the website.
Note: If the video takes longer than 15 minutes to upload, abandon it and try again later. “
General Video Guidelines and Tips:
- Include where feedback was incorporated into the testing plan with the results.
- Present your approach precise, detailed and indepth.
- Be creative and innovative!
- What are the broader impacts of your project
- Why did you choose particular project topic/problem that needed solving?
- What were your project goals and objectives?
- All team members should appear in video
- Ensure that you speak clearly, confidently, and in close proximity to a microphone
- Be sure to review the video judging criteria which should be given to you by your faculty advisor
- Record videos in a wide-screen format, if using a cell phone to record, hold it horizontally
- Zoom and Skype will work as well
- Dress code for the videos can be casual but should still look professional (i.e khakis/black pants and a polo)
- Videos must be around 7 TO 10 MINUTES in length, no longer than 11 MINUTES (any video submissions that over 11 minutes will receive point deductions off their overall scores from the judges).
