Many industries have deep sea infrastructure that requires inspections. Traditionally divers would have to do saturation diving in order to make these inspections. The underwater glider aims to be a safer alternative to keep divers out of harms way. Utilizing hydrofoils and a variable buoyancy engine the underwater glider aims to be a highly energy efficient drone used for deep sea infrastructure inspections. It works by moving in a sinusoidal or sawtooth pattern by taking on and expelling water to change it buoyancy, during descents and ascents forward motion is achieved through lift created by hydrofoils. The teams underwater glider aims to be a highly modular option at a low cost point for the customer. The underwater glider has a variety of uses outside of just infrastructure inspections with a modular sensor package allowing for uses in the research and defense fields as well.Team
