SPUD: Single-core Processing Unit and Display

We are project S.P.U.D! Also known as Single-core Processing Unit and Display. Our special project isn’t like most others in senior design. Since our team is exclusively computer engineers, we wanted to create something special. In a nutshell we are modifying a RISC-V core in Verilog alongside a 64x64 LED Matrix display. We will also be creating a custom controller to take inputs from users. The outcome of the project is to make visual simulations and interactive programs. The goal of the project is creating our own custom processor to fully understand computer architecture and earn the title of computer engineer. It works by loading our custom CPU into the FPGA allowing us to then upload a precompiled C program into ram. This project allows our team to grow in areas that further develop our careers and keep our passions burning.
