In today’s tech driven world, smartphones have become a major source of distraction, especially while commuting. From texting at red lights to scrolling through social media, drivers often lose focus, leading to unsafe roads and increased accidents. SafeSight is a compact, transponder sized device designed to help drivers stay alert and attentive. Using computer vision, SafeSight monitors both the driver and external traffic conditions, detecting distractions such as looking down at a phone or delayed reactions to traffic signals. When an attention infraction occurs, the device emits an audible alert and logs the incident. To further promote safer habits, SafeSight also captures images during trips and sends them to a connected mobile app. This allows users to review their driving history, see when and why infractions occurred, and reflect on their performance to improve future behavior. Unlike built in features in modern cars, SafeSight targets distraction specifically and can be used in any vehicle, new or old. With over 3,000 fatal crashes annually caused by distracted driving in the U.S. alone, SafeSight aims to reduce preventable accidents by encouraging awareness, accountability, and better driving habits. It makes commuting safer, more efficient, and provides actionable insights for drivers through real time feedback and trip documentation.
