LABBRA Intersection: AI traffic accident detection

Pedestrian deaths are rising nationwide, with one person killed nearly every hour and 25% involving hit‑and‑runs. The UCF area is among the most dangerous in Florida, yet current infrastructure offers no real‑time, reactive safety systems. We built a system that automatically detects and reports traffic accidents using custom hardware, real‑time data collection, a web dashboard, and a machine learning model trained on simulated and real footage. This prototype demonstrates the foundation for a future easy‑to‑deploy roadside unit that could help transportation agencies respond faster and improve roadway safety.
