Knightsaurus is a robotic quadrupedal dinosaur featuring an innovative modular design and an affordable manufacturing price point (< $700 USD) that sets it apart from industry standard robots. Being located in Orlando, Florida, the theme park capital of the world, Knightsaurus highlights the contribution that UCF CECS and its alumni make to the field of entertainment engineering. The primary functions of Knightsaurus include walking, roaring (sound effects), and moving its head, tail, and jaw. These design features provide both realism and user engagement. Knightsaurus is designed to represent a baby Stegosaurus. However, Knightsaurus’ modular design, featuring an adjustable chassis and accessible connections for the head and tail, allows the robot to be repurposed for a number of quadrupedal creatures. Knightsaurus features intuitive user control via a standard Bluetooth video game controller (i.e. XBOX One or PS5 Remote). The roll cage of Knightsaurus resembles a dinosaur skeleton, is easily removable, and provides protection. To showcase the spirit of UCF and create a memorable aesthetic, Knightsaurus features a sleek black design with metallic gold accents. The adaptability and ease of control of Knightsaurus make this design a prime candidate for use in live entertainment demonstrations at theme parks and in STEM education.
