Dr Ravisankar Naraparaju

Dr. Ravisankar Naraparaju is an expert in the field of material science and gas turbines, more specifically relating to the detrimental effects of molten deposits on high temperature ceramic coatings in jet engine applications. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Nagarjuna University and his Masters in Physics at the University of Hyderabad. After completing his Ph.D. at the University of Siegen in 2011, he began working at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne, Germany in the Institute of Materials Research. Dr. Naraparaju leads the efforts at DLR in developing thermal barrier coatings that are resistant to sand (CMAS) /volcanic ashes. He characterizes the infiltration mechanisms of these molten deposits and the subsequent degradation of the ceramic coatings through various materials characterization techniques in order to contribute towards more infiltration resistant coatings. He has published more than 20 publications in this field. He also works on ultra-high temperature ceramics and development of bond coats for Ni-based super alloys. He has guided several Bachelor, Master students and Ph.D. students as well.
