Developing Engineering Leaders: UCF’s Engineering Leadership and Innovation Institute (eli²) – 24^th Annual HENAAC Conference – Great Minds in STEM

Oct 12, 2012– During the 24th Annual HENAAC Conference, hosted this year at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Dr. Timothy Kotnour spoke on the Engineering Leadership and Innovation Institute (eli²) established at UCF’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. The Institute was established to help students discover their burning desire and confidence to create, innovate and collaborate to deliver world changing solutions. The Institute offers a series of life-long engagement programs for the undergraduate, graduate, and executive level "student".

Lockheed Martin Exec to Students: Finding Your Niche Takes Time

Oct 9, 2012- On the first day of work at her first engineering job after college, Joanne Puglisi's excitement was quickly deflated when her supervisor told her that the only reason she was hired was to fill a quota.

Despite the emotional setback, she set out to prove that she was more than just a number.

Puglisi, one of UCF's first female engineering graduates, is now an executive at Lockheed Martin. She came to UCF on Oct. 5 to share leadership advice and stories of her professional journey with students of the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS).

Global Disney Leader Speaks to CECS Students

Sep 24, 2012- Working for a global company like Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has many advantages for engineers, according to Jeff Vahle, a facilities operations executive for the world-famous entertainment company who spoke at UCF on Sept. 21.

"We have exposure to the best thinking on three continents." Vahle said after describing Disney as a "playground for an engineer."

During his presentation, Vahle shared fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about building the infrastructure for Disney's theme parks with students of the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS).

Ford brings virtual reality presentation to UCF

Sep 23, 2012- Ford Motor Company came to UCF Thursday to demonstrate its “Virtual Reality Buck,” a visualization technology that allows engineers to experience and evaluate a car before it is even built.

Engineers from Ford displayed the technology for students and faculty to use and experience how it’s being used on the 2013 Ford Fusion. Researchers at Ford’s labs chose to bring the Virtual Reality Buck to the university because UCF is a leader in innovation and technology, said Audrey Morris, spokeswoman for Ford in the Southeast.

"When I had the opportunity to choose where I was going to bring this technology, it’s a perfect fit for the University of Central Florida. The departments here are leading in the state and even in the country. It makes a lot of sense to be here," Morris said.
