The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) at UCF employs 244 faculty and staff associates to assist 5,849 students. It provides high quality education, exploring and creating new solutions to problems.
The Undergraduate Catalog is the official source of degree requirements for all undergraduate programs based upon the year you are accepted to UCF.
4 Year Plans, Check-sheets, and Flowcharts are available for our Undergraduate Programs on our Forms page.
Admission
Students must apply to UCF through the Admissions office. Admitted students can then declare a major within the College. CECS does not have additional admission requirements to get into the engineering and computer science programs. To apply, please visit the Undergraduate Admissions web site.

Engineering Pending
Transfer and freshman students entering the University of Central Florida who select engineering as a major are classified as engineering pending based on their chosen discipline. For example, aerospace engineering pending, computer engineering pending, and so on. Once admitted to the University and upon evaluation of the engineering pending requirements, students will either be asked to declare their specific engineering discipline, or remain in the Engineering pending category until the semester in which they are completing their final engineering pending courses.
Requirements
Students must complete the following pending courses with a "C" or better and be in good academic standing before the College of Engineering and Computer Science will approve a major change request to move from the "pending" category into a specific engineering discipline.
- MAC 2311: Calculus with Analytical Geometry 1
- MAC 2312: Calculus with Analytical Geometry 2
- PHY 2048: Physics for Engineers and Scientists 1
- CHS 1440, CHM 2045C, or appropriate Chemistry equivalent
When can I declare my engineering major?
In the semester that students are completing their final pending requirements, they are eligible to submit a change of major request which can be found by entering the UCF portal and navigating to the student center. Once in the student center, the change of major request can be found in the drop down menu. Submitting the change of major request before the withdrawal deadline of the semester that the final pending requirements are being taken is critical to prevent registration problems. Upon submission of the change of major request, students meeting the appropriate requirements will be granted access into a select group of upper level engineering courses.
Transfer or Accelerated First-Year students must submit a change of major request prior to attending UCF orientation if all pending requirements have been completed. If the student is in the process of completing the final pending courses, the student will be contacted before their scheduled Orientation, to submit a change of major request. This will allow students to enroll in a select group of upper level engineering courses during the registration component of Orientation. Upon receiving final transcripts from the transfer institution indicating successful completion of pending courses, the change of major request will be approved.
What courses can I take if I am Engineering Pending?
As long as students meet pre-requisites, engineering pending students can take:
- All appropriate General Education Courses
- All required math courses (MAC 2311, MAC 2312, MAC 2313, MAP 2302)
- All Physics courses (PHY 2048, PHY 2049, PHY 3101)

What courses will I have access to register for if I am currently enrolled in the final pending requirements?
Students who are in-progress of completing the final pending courses will be allowed access to a second tier of upper division courses necessary for progression in the major, in addition to other math and science prerequisites. To gain access to this group, a student must submit a change of major request before the withdrawal deadline in the term which he/she has registered for the final courses in the pending major category. Upon successful completion of the in-progress courses the students major change request will be approved.

Transfer Students
Once admitted, transfer students may need to petition engineering and computer science related courses through the appropriate CECS departments. Credit for transfer courses may not be used to meet major requirements until the courses are evaluated and the petitioning process is completed. Transfer students in need of assistance with the transfer process should contact the CECS Academic Affairs Office.
Additional information can be found at the Office of Transfer and Transition Services.

Orientation
Once you have been accepted into UCF, you will need to attend the Freshman Orientation or the Transfer Orientation.
Freshman Orientation
The College presentation of this orientation will give you an overview of the college and split you into groups by major for a group advising session. Afterward, you will be assigned a first year advisor who, along with your CECS Academic Affairs advisors, will help you register for your classes.
Transfer Orientation
The College portion of the Transfer Orientation will give you an overview of the college and split you into groups by major for a group advising session. CECS Academic Affairs officials will then help you register for your first term at UCF. It is important that you bring your unofficial transcripts from your previous institution with you so that CECS officials can accurately answer your questions and help you with registration.
Our 4-Year Plans, Check Sheets, and Flow Charts are located on our Forms page, which you can utilize during your orientation. (link to our Forms site) For additional information on UCF’s orientations, please visit UCF Orientation Services.
