Outreach

The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) Outreach Office was created with the purpose of recruiting and retaining all students including minorities, women, and underrepresented groups at the undergraduate and the graduate levels. CECS Outreach offers a wide range of science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs, activities and support services relating to engineering education.

Outreach Programs

Battlebots IQ Course

Battlebots IQ Course is offered by the Orlando Science Center in partnership with UCF. This class teaches you the fundamentals of mechinical robot design.

Educational Partnerships

Responsible for developing engineering education programs at the pre-college level and is a resource for faculty to connect with local, state and national schools, and multiple other industry, educational and professional organizations interested in K-12 engineering education.

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH)

Aimed at introducing Central Florida middle school age girls to exciting careers in Science, Math and Engineering fields. Participants will experience a taste of college life during their campus visit, hear about opportunities for women in engineering, visit UCF labs and participate in “hands-on” science and math activities!

FIRST Robotics

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition is a unique varsity sport of the mind designed to help high-school-aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be. UCF holds the regional competition at our main campus annually.

Florida Foundation for Future Scientists (FFFS)

Is a statewide, non-profit initiative to discover scientific and technical talent and encourage the pursuit of careers in science and engineering.

Florida Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance (FGLSAMP)

Is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Project, includes over 1000 talented undergraduates in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) majors. It is a coalition of twelve institutions in Florida and one in Georgia.

Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS)

High school teams can compete to solve engineering problems. The JETS test covers engineering concepts through questions relating to analysis and design. Participants range between 8-15 teams from schools throughout the Central Florida area.

National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME)

Since 1974, NACME (the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering) has provided leadership and support to increase the representation African American, American Indian and Latino women and men in engineering and technology, math- and science-based careers.

SECME is a strategic alliance – partnering schools, universities, industry , and government – to renew and strengthen the professional capacity of K-12 educators, motivate and mentor students, and empower parents and communities so that all young people will learn and achieve at higher levels.
